And in all that time, one small thing kept getting in my way: checking how a site looks on mobile while I'm working on the desktop version.

The usual options never felt right. DevTools' device mode is great, but it hides the desktop layout the moment you switch. Resizing the window is clumsy. And when a client asks "can you show me how it looks on a phone?", you end up screen-sharing a narrow browser window and hoping it reads well over a call.

So I built the tool I wanted for myself.

What it does

It's a Chrome extension that overlays a real device frame right on top of the live page. You see the desktop layout and the mobile (or tablet) layout at the same time, in the same tab. Scrolling, clicks and typing stay in sync between them — so you can fill out a form on desktop and watch it happen inside the phone frame too.

A few things it helps with day to day:

Previewing a site across different phones and tablets without leaving the page.

Taking clean screenshots of the mobile view for clients, portfolios, or a GitHub README.

Recording the screen to show a responsive layout in action.

Everything runs locally in the browser. No servers, no analytics inside the extension, no tracking — it just renders the preview and gets out of the way.

Who it's for

I built it for people like me, but it turned out useful for a wider crowd: front-end developers checking responsive layouts without leaving their flow, designers reviewing how a build matches the mockups, freelancers showing work to clients, and anyone putting together a portfolio or README who wants clean device-framed shots.

Try it / tell me what breaks

If you work with responsive layouts, I'd genuinely love your feedback. Especially:

bugs (and which OS / browser version you hit them on)

ideas for new features

anything that feels clunky in the UI

Try it on the Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/mobile-view-mobile-simu/hocbjiaeeijekejepphjihbpogikmofh

Thanks to anyone who gives it a try — every bit of feedback makes it better.
